South Africa-based MTN Group has made key changes to its executive committee, appointing Karel Pienaar is its new chief strategy officer and Zunaid Bulbulia as the new CEO of its South African unit.
Pienaar’s appointment reflects the separation of the M&A and strategy divisions of the business, the telco announced today.
In his new role, Pienaar, currently CEO of MTN South Africa, will be responsible for overseeing company strategy across its 22 operations. Khumo Shuenyane will focus on M&A and international business development.
A founding member of MTN, Pienaar has held various senior executive positions within the group, including group chief of IT and CEO of MTN Nigeria.
Meanwhile, as the new CEO of the South African unit, Bulbulia is charged with improving its competitive position in the local market. Also a founding member of MTN, Bulbulia has been CFO of MTN South Africa since 2005 and is currently also acting chief business officer of MTN Business.
As reported earlier, the group has also named former CEO Phuthuma Nhleko as its new chairman and non-executive director.
