Motorola is reported to be mulling a spin-off of its TV set-top box unit and mobile division into a publicly traded company and a sale of the wireless network equipment unit, writes The Wall Street Journal.
The newspaper reported that a decision on the process has yet to be reached, but that the matter had been discussed at a board meeting at the end of last month.
Separately, Motorola announced that its strategic investment arm Motorola Ventures has participated in a financing round for Zenverge, a developer of advanced media integrated circuits (ICs).
Other existing investors, DCM and Norwest Venture Partners also provided funds, which will support production of a family of single-chip media ICs based on the Zenverge Entertainment Nexus (ZEN).
