Kazakhstan’s Kcell, a mobile subsidiary of Swedish incumbent TeliaSonera, has hired Ali Agan as its new CEO, effective as of 1 June 2013.
He replaces Veysel Aral, who was named president of BA Eurasia within the TeliaSonera group in February 2013.
Earlier this year, TeliaSonera announced new board appointments following the controversy over its 2007 3G licence deal in Uzbekistan. As part of the changes, the company appointed Veysel Aral to manage its Eurasia region, which includes its Uzbekistan unit.
Ali Agan was previously CEO of Ucell, also a unit of the Swedish telco and Uzbekistan’s second-largest mobile carrier. Between 2008 and 2012, he led Azercell, TeliaSonera’s operator in Azerbaijan.
Kcell, Kazakhstan’s largest mobile operator, raised US$525m in the listing of 25% of its shares at the end of last year.
