Japanese telecom giant Softbank is expecting to issue Y400bn (US$3.9bn) in retail bonds in June, according to a person with knowledge of the matter.
Further details about the financing have yet to be revealed.
Last month, the telco raised US$3.3bn in 2020 senior notes, up from the US$2bn initially planned, following strong investor demand. It said it will use the proceeds to part-finance the acquisition of US giant Sprint, refinance existing debt and for general corporate purposes.
Softbank’s US$20.1bn bid to Sprint is being challenged by DTH operator Dish Network’s US$25.5bn counter offer.
Softbank’s CEO, Masayoshi Son, however said a few weeks ago that he sees no need to raise the company’s offer for Sprint, arguing it was already superior to Dish’s.
