The CEO of Russia-focussed VimpelCom Jo Lunder has said the telco may look at potential acquisitions in areas where it is already present, but has no plans to enter new markets in the near future.
Lunder told Russian news agency Ria Novosti that VimpelCom, based in Amsterdam, has not ruled out acquisitions that would enhance the position and value of existing assets.
VimpelCom operates in Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikstan, Armenia, Georgia, other parts of Europe and Asia and various countries in Africa and North America.
Commenting on the news, a VimpelCom spokesperson noted that the company may look at new markets longer term.
