The Czech telecoms regulator has re-launched its frequency auction.
The Czech Telecommunications Office (CTU) published details of the new tender on its website. The new tender will see additional spectrum set aside for a new market entrant. Current operators are Telefonica, T-Mobile and Vodafone.
In early March, the CTU halted its planned 4G auction, saying received bids were so high they would have negative economic effect on the industry in consumers.
Launched today, the public consultation phase runs until 8 May. The authority estimates the official selection process will begin in June.
CTU said it anticipates the government will raise “billions” of Czech koruna from the initial auction, after which it will introduce annual fees.
Announcing the suspension of the auction last month, CTU said it had received bids totalling more than Kc20bn (US$1.03bn). Chairman Pavel Dvorak reiterated that the main aim of the auction is not to generate profit, but rather to develop fast 4G networks and make room for a potential fourth mobile operator.
