Telekom Austria has named Michael Jungwirth as head of its newly-formed ‘regulatory and European affairs’ department.
Jungwirth will represent the Telekom Austria Group as well as its mobile subsidiary A1 in Brussels with respect to regulatory affairs, the incumbent telco said in an announcement. He will also be the group’s first internal point of contact for regulatory matters.
The new department, which merges the formerly-separate regulatory and European affairs units, officially came into being on 1 March.
Jungwirth joined the group in 2007 as assistant to the management board, and in 2009 became head of the ‘strategic board agenda’, reporting to CEO Hannes Ametsreiter. In May 2012, he also took on responsibility for the group’s European regulatory affairs.
Commenting on his new role, Jungwirth described regulation as “one of the most challenging issues for all telecommunications companies”.
“I’m looking forward, together with my team, to addressing important projects such as the upcoming LTE spectrum auction in addition to international topics such as roaming,” he said.
