Telefonica has promoted Alberto Horcajo Aguirre to CFO of its Brazilian operations.
He has previously been head of the Atento call centre business that Telefonica sold late last year.
The group first identified Aguirre for the CFO position in December. This week the company said Aguirre will not be able to begin the role until he is cleared by Brazil’s Ministry of Labor and Employment. General officer Paulo Cesar Pereira Teixeira will hold the position during the interim period.
Aguirre replaces Gilmar Camurra, who has left the position for undisclosed reasons.
In December the then CFO talked up the possibility of floating Telefonica’s LatAm business, saying it could raise between €4bn and €6bn. The IPO has subsequently been shelved indefinitely by the group because it no longer sees it as a priority given the success of its other debt reduction measures.
