MTN South Africa is in talks with American Tower Company (ATC) over the sale of its tower assets, it is understood.
Rumours of a potential deal between the South Africa-headquartered telco group and the American towerco have circulated the market for a while, but neither party has made an official announcement regarding the transaction.
It is unclear at what stage the talks are.
An ATC spokesperson refused to comment when contacted by TelecomFinance today and MTN South Africa did not respond in time for the deadline.
If talks do culminate in a deal, it would be one of ATC’s many tower acquisitions in recent months.
As TelecomFinance reported last week, Mexican telco Axtel sold 883 towers to ATC’s Mexican subsidiary for US$250m.
Back in November, Dutch telco KPN sold 2,000 towers from its German subsidiary E-Plus to ATC for €393m (US$501m).
