Finland’s telecoms regulator has opened registration for the sale of frequencies in the 800MHz band being planned for 24 January 2013.
Bidders have until 17 December this year to pay €65,000 to register for the auction, which will sell a total 2×30 MHz of 4G spectrum in 2×5 MHz frequency pairs. One bidder will not be able to pick up more than three frequency pairs from the sale.
The Finnish government expects to raise at least €100m in total from the entire process, based on reserve prices. The spectrum licences will be valid for 20 years and will cover the whole of Finland, except for the Region of Aland.
At the end of November 2010, TeliaSonera became the first mobile operator to launch 4G services in the country, where it competes with telcos Elisa and DNA.
[Subhead] Norway sells 2 GHz spectrum
The Norwegian telecoms regulator yesterday announced that it had raised NKr 45m (US$7.8m) from selling 2 GHz spectrum to existing players TeliaSonera, Telenor and Mobile Norway.
The Norwegian regulator revealed that there were a total of five registered bidders for its auction, with two undisclosed parties deciding to withdraw from the process. One bidder withdrew from the auction only 24 minutes before its first round was about to start, according to the Norwegian Post and Telecommunications Authority.
