According to the newspaper, the decision was unveiled at the regulator’s meeting on January 19, where it set out its strategy and budget for 2010-2013.
An ANRT spokesperson would not confirm the news at this stage but said details of the meeting would be released in the coming days.
Morocco has three mobile operators at the moment. These are Vivendi’s Maroc Telecom, Meditel – which was recently taken over by local bank CDG and a financial consortium led by its chairman, Othman Benjelloun – and Wana, which is controlled by Ona and backed by Zain.
