Partner Communications’ controlling shareholder Ilan Ben-Dov is looking to sell the company’s mobile sites and lease them back, according to media reports.
Saban Capital Group, which is in talks to acquire a stake in Partner, is said to be aware of this intention, which aims to encourage collaboration between operators. With sites owned by another company, it is thought to be easier to recruit other mobile carriers to share the sites.
“The subject of selling the company’s mobile sites and lease them back is frequently discussed and aim to reduce the number of transmission sites through cooperation and creating shared sites,” Amalia Glaser, spokesperson at Partner, told TelecomFinance via an emailed statement today. “This is a common interest of the general public, the Ministry of Environment and the telecommunications companies.”
Lazard is thought to be handling the transaction, according to the reports.
TelecomFinance reported on Monday that Scailex is in talks with Saban regarding the potential sale of its stake in Partner.
Scailex issued a statement to the Tel Aviv stock exchange confirming the talks after a local newspaper reported that Saban had reached an understanding with Scailex to acquire 35-40% of the company for US$400-450m.
