Jakarta-based telco Indosat has appointed Alexander Rusli as its new CEO.
He replaces Harry Sasongko who had held the position since 2009.
Rusli has been an independent commissioner at Indosat since January 2010 and currently serves as member of the remuneration committee. He will start in his new role on 1 November.
Rusli has also been MD at Northstar Pacific, a private equity fund which focuses on Indonesian opportunities. It is unclear whether or not he will continue in this role in light of his promotion at Indosat.
In the past he has worked for the Indonesian government where he was involved in drafting policy and regulation for media and telecoms.
Indosat is majority-owned by Qatar Telecom (Qtel) which holds 65% of the operator, while the government owns 14.3%.
Indosat did not comment on former CEO Sasongko’s future plans.
