Russian mobile operator MegaFon has acquired Felebior Holdings, the parent company of the Moscow-based VAS Media Group, which it plans to merge with subsidiary MegaLabs.
Announcing the deal today, MegFon did not disclose the value but said VAS Media – which supplies multi-media content, ring tones and geo-positioning, mobile payment and other related services – posted consolidated EBITDA of Rbs933m (US$29.5m) for the first half of 2012.
MegaFon CEO Ivan Tavrin said the acquisition marks an important step in the company’s plans to develop new value-added services.
“Before the acquisition, the VAS Media Group was already a partner of MegaLabs, one of our wholly-owned subsidiaries, on a variety of projects and we plan to fully-integrate the newly-acquired assets into MegaLabs in the near future.”
MegaFon, currently working toward listing on the London Stock Exchange, is also reportedly planning to buy a 50% stake in Russia’s largest mobile phone retailer Euroset for between US$1.25bn and US$1.35bn.
