The Omani government may look at selling a 30% stake in telecoms incumbent Omantel this year, the minister of national economy was quoted saying in Arabian Business.
TelecomFinance reported in October 2008 that eight bidders had been shortlisted to buy a 25% stake in Omantel. Etisalat, Zain, Orascom, STC, Reliance Communications, Belgacom, France Telecom and MTN were the operators on the list.
The government, which owns 70% of Omantel, reportedly put the sale of the stake on hold in December 2008 because of poor market conditions.
Citigroup and National Bank of Oman were advising Omantel on the disposal.
