Russian mobile operator MegaFon and 4G operator Scartel (Yota) have reportedly completed the merger of their assets, following regulatory clearance in mid-June.
Dow Jones reported the deal will afford MegaFon, which was yesterday awarded a license in Russia’s LTE spectrum auction, access to about 50% of the federation’s existing LTE frequencies in the 2.5GHz to 2.7GHz band.
While the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) announced it had approved MegaFon affiliate Garsdale Services’ proposal to acquire Scartel last month, the parties have yet to disclose the details of the transaction.
FAS director Igor Artemyev has said the companies have agreed not to prevent other operators from accessing the LTE frequencies on a wholesale basis.
The companies were not immediately available for comment.
