Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T), owned by US firm Atlantic Tele-Network (ATN), has replaced CFO Royston Rachpaul and its CEO Yog Mahadeo, following an internal review.
Joseph Singh has been appointed acting CEO and Sonita Jagan is now acting CFO, according to a GT&T statement.
In the statement Paul Bowersock, a member of the GT&T board of directors, said that auditors found actions inconsistent with the company’s ethical standards regarding internal business practices and conflicts of interest.
Three employees reporting to the CFO have also left the company.
Singh and Jagan are both former CEOs of GT&T. Bowersock said: “With their extraordinary experience as former executives of GT&T, Joe Singh and Sonita Jagan will do an excellent job leading the company. We are fortunate to have such great resources available to us.”
Local media reports suggest allegations of inappropriate payments made by GT&T are the background for the management changes, but ATN did wish to comment on these reports at the present.
