Failing to rival established mobile operators, U:fon has decided to change its strategy and become the first ‘low cost’ operator in the Czech Republic, according to reports.
U:fon is a joint venture between Motorola and ConnecTel, a company related to investment firm Penta.
The operator reportedly plans to close its branded stores and integrate its marketing and sales departments with a view to reducing retail prices.
U:fon won a CDMA licence in 2005 and launched services in 2007. The market is dominated by Telefonica O2 CR, T-Mobile and Vodafone.
