At Telekom Austria’s (TA) AGM on Wednesday, Austrian investor Ronny Pecik was elected as a new member to the supervisory board. Pecik received 73.18% of votes present at the shareholder meeting.
Ronny Pecik has built a stake of around 21% in TA over the past few months, together with telecoms investor Naguib Sawiris of Egypt.
In late April, Pecik and Sawiris suggested to increase the TA board from previously eight to ten members, and asked to add the issue to the AGM agenda.
While initially the two investors both wanted to take an additional seat each, Sawiris withdrew his candidacy only hours before the AGM and did not stand for election.
The new supervisory board therefore has nine members.
Local media reports suggested that Sawiris, who did not attend the AGM due to the presidential election in Egypt yesterday, would seek TA board membership sooner rather than later, making an EGM likely in the not so distant future.
