Amsterdam-based telecoms operator VimpelCom has named Maximo Ibarra as new chief executive officer of its Italian unit, Wind Telecomunicazioni.
Ibarra, who previously headed Wind’s consumer business, will start his new role on 11 May. He will also become a member of the VimpelCom management board.
Ibarra career in the telecoms sector began in 1994, VimpelCom said in a statement, working in Telecom Italia Mobile’s marketing department before joining Omnitel/Vodafone’s marketing division in 1996. He spent several years outside the sector before joining Wind in 2004, working as the marketing director of the mobile business unit prior to his promotion to director of the consumer business unit.
VimpelCom announced the resignation of his predecessor, Ossama Bessada, on 23 March, saying he was relocating to Canada.
