US mobile operator Verizon Wireless will sell some of its spectrum in the 700MHz band if its planned acquisitions of spectrum from cablecos and another operator are completed.
Verizon Wireless said in a statement that it plans an open sale of all its 700MHz A and B licences. The sale would be managed by Stephens, Inc.
But the company added that the sale is contingent on the completion of its planned acquisitions of Advanced Wireless Spectrum (AWS) in three separate deals, which are currently under review.
Verizon Wireless agreed last year to acquire spectrum from SpectrumCo, a JV of cablecos Bright House Networks, Comcast and Time Warner Cable, in a US$3.6bn deal.
It also agreed to buy spectrum in separate transactions from cableco Cox Communications and mobile operator Leap Wireless.
The acquisitions are being reviewed by the FCC and Department of Justice. Verizon Wireless expects the deals to be completed in mid-summer 2012.
In March, the FCC asked Verizon Wireless to provide more information on the deals.
Verizon Wireless is a JV between Verizon Communications and Vodafone.
