Vodafone Netherlands has acquired local telecoms services provider Tele Spectrum in an effort to take advantage of what it contends is the growing demand for hosted voice services.
A Vodafone NL spokesperson declined to comment on the value of the deal but said Tele Spectrum is one of the three largest players in the Dutch hosted voice market which, he added, is expected to double from €100m to €200m within the next three years.
“Our objective is to become the number one player in the hosted voice market in the Netherlands,” he said.
In a statement announcing the acquisition, Vodafone NL said a growing number of Dutch SMEs are opting for virtual hosted voice services for reasons of economic efficiency, preferring to pay a set amount per month for a single operator to manage their fixed and mobile systems.
Vodafone NL will start offering hosted voice services for businesses this month, according to the statement. All 65 Tele Spectrum staff will immediately become employees of Vodafone NL.
The acquisition forms part of Vodafone NL’s transition from a purely mobile operator to one that offers integrated services, director of business markets, Philip Lacor, said.
Vodafone NL is the Netherlands’ second largest mobile operator, with about 5.3 million customers as at 31 December 2011.
Founded in 1994, Tele Spectrum offers a range of telecoms services to customers nationwide, including VoIP and mobile calling and IP telephony services.
