Telkom Kenya, which operates the country’s third largest mobile network, is seeking a KSh10.9bn (US$131m) bailout from its shareholders, according to the East African newspaper.
TelecomFinance understands that internal documents regarding a potential bailout have not yet been finalised.
The company, which is 51%-owned by French incumbent France Telecom and the rest by the Kenyan government, is reportedly at risk of defaulting on bank loans within the next few months.
But Mickael Ghosseinm, Telkom Kenya CEO, was quoted saying during a press conference on Friday that the company is in a position to meet its financial obligations.
