Vodafone Deutschland CEO Friedrich Joussen has announced his resignation to staff and named Jens Schulte-Bockum, head of the group’s Dutch operations, as his likely successor.
Spokespeople for Vodafone’s German and Dutch operations confirmed Joussen told employees in an email that he would leave his post later this year. The Vodafone Deutschland supervisory board is set to decide on a proposal to name Schulte-Bockum as its new CEO at a meeting on 29 March. If the proposal is approved, Schulte-Bockum would start his new role in October.
Joussen, who did not want to comment on his plans for the future, started as CEO in October 2005.
A Vodafone Deutschland spokesperson said Joussen’s resignation came as little surprise as he had told the group last year that he wanted to take on new challenges. Wanting to keep him within the group, Vodafone decided to extend his contract to 2015, giving him the opportunity to take on a different role.
