The Netherlands will hold an auction for spectrum within six bands in October, with space for both existing mobile network operators and newcomers.
A spokesman for the Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs confirmed space will be made available in the 800MHz, 900MHz, 1.8GHz, 1.9GHz, 2.1GHz and 2.6GHz bands.
“We have made some space available only for newcomers,” he said.
T-Mobile, KPN and Vodafone are currently the sole mobile operators with spectrum licences but the Dutch parliament determined last year to make space for new entrants.
MPs and government decided to assign newcomers 2x10MHz in the 800MHZ band and 2x5MHz in the 900MHz band.
The spokesman said licence periods are yet to be finalised, although it is likely those in the 900MHz and 1,800MHz bands will last 17 years.
