Shane O’Neill, senior vice president and chief strategy officer of Liberty Global and president of subsidiary Chellomedia Services, resigned on 30 December, according to an SEC filing dated 4 January.
As CSO, O’Neill oversaw Liberty Global’s strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate development activities. As well as presiding over Chellomedia, the company’s content division, he was responsible for the group’s investment arm LGI Ventures.
According to his company biography, O’Neill joined United Pan-Europe Communications, later merged into Liberty Global Europe, as managing director of corporate development and mergers and acquisitions in 1999 and was appointed CSO of parent company UnitedGlobalCom (UGC) in 2002. He became president of Chellomedia in 2003 and CSO of Liberty Global following the combination of Liberty Media International and UGC.
“During his tenure, he has been instrumental in determining and executing the strategy that has resulted in the highly-successful turnaround of UPC Broadband Division, which comprises Liberty Global’s core European cable businesses,” the biography states.
