Amazon has asked an investment bank earlier this year to assess a possible acquisition of Blackberry maker Research in Motion (RIM), Reuters reported citing an unnamed source. However, the online retailer did not make a formal offer, the source said.
RIM and Amazon reportedly refused to comment.
According to the article sources said that RIM has received approaches from other interested parties as well, but that the RIM management does not support a break up or sale of the company.
RIM investor Jaguar had in the past few months repeatedly called for a sale of Amazon, or of its patent portfolio.
