The CEO of PTK, the Kosovo state-owned telecom provider, intends to step down, according to a company announcement. The news comes only weeks after the government of Kosovo abandoned a sales process for the company.
In a statement published on the PTK website, the company said that Shyqyri Haxhawas was “forced to announce his intent of resignation from his position”.
According to the statement Haxhawas opted for the drastic move because “there are obstacles in realizing his vision for the development of the company”.
In mid October Kosovo had cancelled the privatisation process of incumbent PTK after Croatia’s T-HT withdrew from the process following corruption allegations against senior management.
The government committee for the privatisation of PTK decided at the time to launch a new process at a later stage.
According to reports back in October PTK CEO Shyqyri Haxha denied accusations alleging that he signed harmful contracts and abused official postions.
For the initial privatisation process, the authorities were advised by a consortium of Telco AG and law firm Wolf Theiss.
