Mozambique’s mobile operators MCel and Vodacom Mozambique have been granted a 15-year 3G licence each by the Instituto Nacional das Comunicações de Moçambique (INCM), Telecompaper reports quoting local media Noticias.
According to the terms of the licences the operators have to roll out their 3G networks to all districts of the country by the end of 2015, including Mozambique’s development corridors and tourist resorts, the report said.
State-owned Mcel and Vodafone-owned Vodacom are currently the only operators offering mobile services in the country.
Neither the regulator nor the companies were immediately available for comments.
