France Telecom-Orange and Vivendi’s SFR have signed an agreement to jointly deploy fibre optic in less densely-populated areas of France.
Under the agreement SFR will serve 2.3 million and Orange 7.5 million of the 9.8 million households where both operators have redundant deployment projects.
In order to avoid project duplication, the agreement designates the operator responsible for deployment in each commune.
But each company will maintain a commercial presence in the areas covered by the agreement, only buying wholesales services from the operator deploying the local network.
The network will be opened to other market players in line with French regulations for network sharing.
Orange signed a similar agreement with Free last July.
