Greek regulator EETT has outlined plans to auction frequencies in the 900 MHz and 1800 MHz spectrum bands on 14 November.
According to the regulator, it has already received €182m from Greece’s incumbent mobile operators – Vodafone, Wind Hellas and OTE – to share out frequencies in the 900MHz band.
These three operators will be the only bidders in November’s auction, and reports suggest the cash-strapped country is hoping to raise at least €240m from the whole process.
EETT expects to conclude the auction on 18 November.
In addition, it plans to auction Wind Hellas and Vodafone’s 2G licences before they are due to expire in September 2012, instead of just reissuing them, to help raise more money to support Greece’s significant debt repayments.
