Incumbent China Telecom has named executive director Yang Jie as president and chief operating officer (COO), effective as of 2 November.
Yang, who has 27 years experience in the Chinese telecom industry, was previously vice president of China Telecom, according to a company statement.
He replaces Shang Bing, who resigned in mid-July to become deputy minister at China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
His resignation came as part of a management shake-up at China’s state-owned telecom operators, with Shang replacing Xi Guohua at the MIIT. Xi left the government in June to become executive director and vice-chairman of China Mobile.
