Franco-American equipment maker Alcatel-Lucent announced it has received a binding bid of US$1.5bn in cash from Permira for its call centre business Genesys.
In July, Alcatel-Lucent confirmed it was looking at strategic options for its enterprise business after rumours of the sale had emerged and spread since April.
In June, Permira was reported to be the frontrunner for the whole unit before concentrating on the sole acquisition of Genesys.
Alcatel-Lucent is reportedly advised by Qatalyst Partners.
The divestment is part of Alcatel-Lucent’s strategy to focus on the sale of equipment to large telecoms operators.
The transaction is expected to close by the end of 2011 or the beginning of 2012 following the review of Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) and other necessary approvals in various countries.
Genesys reported 2010 sales of about US$500m. The transaction concerns about 1,800 employees worldwide.
