Yap Wai Khee, the CEO of Cambodian mobile operator Mfone, will resign at the end of October for family-related reasons, according to the Phnom Penh Post citing Atip Rittaporn, managing director of Mfone’s holding company, Shenington Investments.
Mfone was not immediately available for comments before the press deadline.
Rittaporn reportedly added that Mfone is looking for potential buyers, including Beeline and Hello, while emphasising that no formal talks have taken place.
The Cambodian telecoms market is currently overcrowded with eight mobile operators.
The country has already started seeing the beginning of a consolidation trend. In February, Smart Mobile and Star-Cell, respectively number five and number seven in the country, merged their operations.
More recently, it was reported that Digital Star Media was looking to buy rival Excell.
