Azerbaijani mobile operator Azercell has been allocated 3G frequencies, but a spokeswoman said the group is still waiting for a licence to operate on them.
Local reports suggest Azerbaijan’s State Radio Frequency Commission is set to award the licence in the near future.
Rival operator Bakcell is also reportedly close to receiving a 3G licence, although technical issues have delayed the process.
Azerfon is the only of Azerbaijan’s three mobile operators to currently have a 3G licence, after launching these services in 2010.
