The Kenyan authorities have extended the deadline to submit bids to build a 4G network after no operator showed interest in the project, Business Daily reports.
According to the reports the tender, launched on 30 August, invited interested parties to express their interest within 14 days, but a day before the end of that period no telecoms companies had shown up.
Reuters reported earlier this month that Kenya had invited investors to join a private public partnership to build an LTE network with the authorities providing the frequencies. Investors must have at least 20% of local shareholding.
The new deadline to submit bids is now reportedly set to 27 September.
Safaricom and Telkom Kenya are both reportedly expected to submit an offer.
