The South Korean spectrum auction has attracted bids close to KRW1 trillion (US$925m) by the end of the week, according to a wire report.
News agency Reuters referred to an unnamed official at the telecoms regulator of the country, the Korean Communications Commission (KCC), saying bids were higher than KRW900bn (US$833m), on the eighth day of the auction.
Contenders for the frequencies are SK Telecom and KT Corp, which are both interested in acquiring access to the 1.8GHz band up for grabs, which is suitable for LTE deployment.
Competitor LG Uplus has already secured spectrum in the 2.1GHz range, paying only the minimum offer price of KRW445.5bn (US$412m).
SK Telecom and KT Corp had been excluded from bidding for spectrum in that range, leaving LG Uplus as the only bidder.
The 800 MHz band also being auction has not attracted any bids yet, Reuters said.
The KCC was not available for comment.
