China Telecom is on the verge of choosing a network partner for its upcoming UK-based MVNO, according to the group’s EMEA MD Ou Yan.
“We are still in the process of evaluating proposals submitted by respective potential partners and expect to complete the short listing by next week followed by the contract negotiation process,” Ou told TelecomFinance in an email today.
Targeting Chinese residents and tourists in the UK, the MVNO is set to be launched commercially in Q1 2012. Ou has also said recently that he expects the new subsidiary to break-even within five years.
“The big challenge for us is how to make the business organic after five years – or maybe even three years,” he said.
In addition, Ou has revealed that his group is seeking to acquire an ICT business in the EMEA region to expand its presence and customer base.
Continuous efforts are made to identify acquisition opportunities, and the company is hopeful of closing such a deal sometime next year, he said in an interview earlier this month.
