Spokespeople for T-Mobile Austria and Austrian retailer Spar have refused to confirm media reports that the companies have teamed up to launch an MVNO under Spar’s “S-Budget” brand.
Reports in Austrian dailies Der Standard and Wirtschaftsblatt had reported the news of the expected launch earlier this week. Wirtschaftsblatt said the MVNO would start operating on 26 August, and was seen as a first step only, with further co-operations planned.
Such co-operations could include e-commerce offerings, digital vouchers, or an e-wallet solution, the paper speculated.
Spokespeople for both companies refused to confirm the reports and only said that the companies would announce “product innovations” in the field of mobile communications at a press conference to be held on 23 August.
The invite for the press briefing, at which the CEOs of both companies are expected to be present, also confirms that the new product would run under the “S-Budget” brand.
