Satcom provider Comtech Telecommunications believes collaboration is crucial as demand for connectivity grows.

Through its Evoke initiative, Comtech works with other companies to share technology and solutions, saving time and the duplication of work.

“There’s no point in inventing, or even reinventing, the wheel,” Anirban Chakraborty, chief growth officer and head of Evoke, tells Connectivity Business News in this episode of “The Dish” podcast. “We would rather partner with some folks, [and we have] a very high-level blueprint that advises us the areas where we want to partner.”

The latest partner is computer networking firm Aarna Networks, which will collaborate with Comtech on integrated cloud-native solutions for governments and large-enterprise customers.

Melville, N.Y.-based Comtech (NASDAQ: CMTL) created Evoke in September 2022 to form partnerships that combine companies’ technologies and solutions rather than manufacturing new technologies in house.

In addition to collaboration, the convergence of connectivity infrastructures, such as satellite communications and terrestrial infrastructures, is necessary to meet growing connectivity demands, says Chakraborty. “If so much connectivity needs to happen, that puts pressure on the network infrastructure that puts pressure on the service provider to invest money,” Chakraborty tells CBN. “In other words, it’s a CapEx problem. And it’s not just a CapEx problem — it’s also an optics problem.”

Comtech last month announced multiple orders for CDM-780 high-speed, software-defined modems from the U.S. Department of Defense and several undisclosed major satellite operators, designed to take pressure off ground stations by creating intersatellite data links, according to the company.

As more satellite operators begin to include satellites in varying orbits within their constellations, there will be a greater need for intersatellite communication and multimodality technologies such as software-defined modems, Chakraborty told CBN.

“There is a ground infrastructure revolution, and there is also a satellite revolution,” he said.

Tune into “The Dish” to learn more about Evoke, the role of convergent infrastructures in meeting capacity demands and the importance of collaboration within the connectivity industry to build a comprehensive ecosystem of solutions for customers.
