German TV group ProSiebenSat.1 (P7S1) has raised concerns about a takeover of cableco Kabel BW by Liberty.
In yesterday’s H1 results presentation, P7S1 CEO Thomas Ebeling reportedly said that the company believes that a higher number of players was better for the cable market. P7S1 follows the transaction closely, Ebeling said, and would feed back its views to the German Federal Cartel Office (FCO).
A P7S1 spokesperson refused to elaborate on the comments by Ebeling.
This follows recent reports that the FCO is likely to extent its current antitrust probe by another three months, although an FCO spokesperson told TelecomFinance that this had always been expected by the regulator and was not a change in its position. The spokesperson argued with the complexity of the case.
Liberty Global had agreed in March to acquire number three cableco Kabel BW for E3.16bn from EQT.
