Franco-American equipment maker Alcatel-Lucent confirmed it is looking at strategic options for its enterprise business.
“All options are being explored including discussions with third parties,” the company said in a release.
Rumours that Alcatel-Lucent was putting its enterprise division up for sale emerged first in April but the company recurrently refused to comment.
In June, private equity firm Permira was reported to be the frontrunner for the enterprise business with an offer of around US$1.3bn. Siemens Enterprise Communications, Cisco, Hewlet-Packard and Avaya had also been mentioned as potential candidates.
Alcatel-Lucent is reportedly advised by Qatalyst Partners.
The entreprise division sells applications for call centres, video conferencing and other products to non-telecoms operators, which does not fit with the Alcatel-Lucent’s strategy to focus on the sale of equipment to large telecoms operators.
