Taiwanese regulator National Communications Commission (NCC) has banned telcos from using products manufactured by Chinese equipment vendor Huawei on national security grounds, wrote the Taipei Times.
The report explained that several Taiwanese operators, including Vibo and Far EasTone, have purchased equipment from Huawei but some of those products are still being held at customs.
Commission spokesperson Chen Jeng-chang suggested the Ministry of Economic Affairs to clearly list the Chinese telecom products that cannot be imported in order to avoid any confusion for telcos, the report said.
The NCC could not be reached for comment before the press deadline.
Huawei, along with other Chinese vendors, has on several occasions struggled to export its products in Europe, the US and certain Asian countries because of because of national security fears regarding its perceived links to the Chinese military. But in September 2010, India lifted its ban on both Huawei and ZTE.
