US telco Sprint Nextel is looking to introduce mobile payment technology services this year, before any of the other major US carriers, according to media reports.
Bloomberg reported yesterday that Sprint’s vice president of product platforms, Kevin McGinnis, said that Sprint was working with payment networks and handset makers to develop the technology.
The news comes a week after Sprint’s announcement of a new partnership with Google, which would see it becoming the first carrier to integrate Google Voice on its network.
Google Voice allows users to manage up to six different devices through a single phone number.
The move means that Sprint may be more attractive than its rivals to customers that want to use Google Voice.
