Deutsche Telekom is in talks with the state to buy the 49 per cent stake it does not already own in Slovak Telekom, according to reports.
In April, a spokesman at the ministry of finance confirmed the authority’s intention to sell the country’s entire 49 per cent stake before the autumn of 2012 – through either an international tender or an IPO.
The ministry of economy holds 34 per cent of the telecoms incumbent, while the National Property Fund owns 15 per cent.
Alternative operator Slovanet has taken over wireless operator Wimax Telecom for E950,000.
A report said 80 per cent of the acquisition would be financed by bank loans and the rest by Slovanet’s own funds. Wimax Telecom has about E2m in revenue, and paid E996,000 for its 3.5 GHz licence in 2005.
Telecoms regulator TUSR is planning to tender 800 MHz frequencies, after closing a second round of public consultations on June 7.
It covers frequency allocation methods, tender invitation and number of licences to be issued.
