Guine Telecom, the state owned telco in the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, is set for privatisation, according to media reports citing Prime Minister Carlos Gomes Junior.
The announcement was made last week at a meeting dealing with the restructuring of Guine Telecom and mobile operator Guinetel, which are both technically bankrupt according to the reports.
The government is currently working on a re-launch of the companies, which is supported by the African Development Bank and Ecobank, which provide 7bn CFA francs (US$ 15.3m) in support of the efforts.
Prime Minister Carlos Gomes was quoted saying that the amount was sufficient to rebalance the companies, which would be the first step towards a privatisation.
