According to a Reuters report new entrants are welcome to apply for a license as well as operators already present in the country such as France Telecom, SahelCom, Bharti Aritel and Atlantique Telecom’s Moov.
Reuters referred to a statement made on state TV.
The report said that only about 20,000 land lines exist in Niger, while about 2.5 million mobile phones are in use. Niger has a population of 16 million.
