Cable operator UPC Romania denied any discussions concerning the sale of the company to RCS&RDS.
In an email, UPC Romania said: “With regard to continued market speculations and rumors regarding the takeover of UPC Romania by RCS&RDS – UPC Romania can confirm that there are no ongoing discussions with RCS&RDS with regard to a potential transaction. UPC Romania will stay committed to offer the benefits of television, internet and telephony services to its Romanian customers.”
In March, entrepreneur Zoltan Teszari, who owns 43% of cable and DTH operator RCS&RDS, was reportedly in talks with banks to finance the acquisition of rival UPC Romania for US$300m.
Reports suggested that UPC Romania’s owners, US cable giant Liberty Global, hired Rothschild last year to review strategic alternatives in the face of strong competition from RCS&RDS.
