Polish mobile operator Polkomtel has shown interest in BelCel, the mobile unit of Belarusian telecoms incumbent Beltelecom, according to a report by official press agency BelTA. The report referred to Deputy Information Technologies and Communications Minister Sergei Nesterovich.
But the ministry has so far not received any official offer, it was added.
BelCel is the only CDMA operator in Belarus. It competes with GSM operators BeST, Telekom Austria-owned Velcom and MTS.
Polkomtel’s shareholders agreed to sell Polkomtel to local businessman Zygmunt Solorz-Zak at the end of June.
Polkomtel declined to comment.
