Ahmad M Al-Sayed, the CEO of sovereign wealth fund Qatar Holding has met with Telefonica chairman Cesar Alierta to discuss the possibility of taking a stake in the Spanish incumbent, according to an EFE report cited by Dow Jones.
The Spanish national news agency said the two met yesterday as part of the SWF’s pledge to invest some E3bn in Spanish companies, but that no agreement was reached.
The Qatari fund, which has said it will put E300m of this into national savings banks, this week paid E2bn for a 6.2% holding in Spanish energy company Iberdrola. It owns 55% of Qatari incumbent QTel.
